Europa 2019 Avignon

Welcome

Dear friends,
A place steeped in history. In the fourteenth century, Avignon became the center of Christendom. Seven popes sat in Avignon from 1305 to 1377. Many buildings testify to the installation of the pontifical court at that time. The imposing Palace of the Popes, the famous Pont Saint Bénézet, the superbly preserved ramparts, the numerous churches and chapels are real gems of architecture.

Our work will be held in the Chamber of the Treasurer of the Palace of the Popes.

Beautiful vineyards. At a stone's throw from Avignon, the capital of the Côtes du Rhône, there is Châteauneuf du Pape, where the pontiff rulers built their summer residence. Our Congress will be under the double patronage of the general union of Côtes du Rhône winemakers and the winegrowers' union of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape Denomination of Origin.

It will be an opportunity to taste Beaume from Venice, Gigondas, Lirac, Tavel, Vaqueyras and Châteauneuf du Pape, of course.

A centenary to celebrate. It was in Châteauneuf du Page that for the first time the concept of AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) was incorporated.

After the phylloxera crisis, in order to guarantee the quality of the wines, the Châteauneuf-du-Pape winemakers in 1894 created the first wine syndicate. At the initiative of Baron Pierre Le Roy de Boiseaumarié, he became the "Syndicat des owners viticulteurs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape", which allowed to obtain the recognition of the appellation of origin Châteauneuf-du-Pape , based on the Law of May 6, 1919. Subsequently, this eminent figure founded the National Institute of Appellations of Origin (INAO) which he chaired for 20 years. He also chaired the destinies of the International Office of Vine and Wine (OIV).

And if there was still a reason to come to Avignon, it would be a pleasure to meet all the members of the AIDV!

See you soon A bientôt.
