The International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), which replaces the International Office of Vine and Wine, was created by the Agreement of 3 April 2001. The OIV is defined as an intergovernmental body of a scientific and technical nature of recognized competence in the field of vines, wine, wine drinks, table grapes, raisins and other products from the vine.

In the area of his skills, his objectives are:
(a) provide its members with measures to address the concerns of producers, consumers and other players in the wine industry;
(b) assist other international intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, including those pursuing normative activities;
(c) contribute to the international harmonization of existing practices and standards and, as needed, to the development of new international standards, to improve the conditions for the development and marketing of wine products and to the consideration of consumer interests.

These missions are guided by a five-year Strategic Plan adopted by its 48 member states.
AIDV participates in the activities of the OIV as a Specialized Observer.

OIV Bulletin

With the support of AIDV, the collection of the OIV Bulletin from 1928 to 2014 was digitized by the University of Burgundy and is freely accessible. Published since 1928, the OIV Bulletin is an essential source of information for all players in the wine industry: a century of knowledge and wine regulations in the digital age. From 1928 to 2014, more than 1000 issues of the Bulletin were published in which nearly 300,000 articles published in the international press were reported, constituting an exceptional documentary background of statistics, regulations, scientific and technical work, recommendations.

OIV Standards

Each year, OIV member states adopt guidelines, definitions, methods of analysis, wine practices, good practice guides or limits that form a normative set that serves as the basis for national or regional regulations. In accordance with WTO definitions, under the Technical Barriers to Trade Agreement, voluntary OIV standards are adopted by consensus on proven scientific grounds. Since the Agreement of 3 April 2001 entered in force in 2004, the OIV resolutions have been available online in French, English, Spanish, German and Italian.
